Our Story

I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called TTP (Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) and woke up in intensive care to start a journey back to recovery that was very long and hard.  After three months off work, I went back into the office on a phased return and decided that part-time working would be best for me.

During my days off I slowly got my strength back and wanted to have a short holiday but was frankly scared to travel anywhere that did not have a treatment centre for my blood disorder in case I was taken ill again.  I did loads of research and even though my lovely consultant said I was fine to travel it was difficult to get on that plane for a short break to Istanbul.  The visit was good, and I realised I needed to take more time-out to enjoy the world and all its beauty.

That trip gave me the confidence to do other European trips including to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and a few years later my friends planned to travel to the far east, I wanted to join them for part of this amazing holiday.  Again, doing research online led to nothing much about safe travel with a serious medical condition, I wanted to ensure I could do everything possible not to get ill while I was abroad right down to taking my own pop-up mosquito net that easily fitted into my suitcase!

I also wanted travel insurance that would cover me and again it was hard to find a company that even knew about my blood disorder then. I was going to cancel the trip at the last minute especially when I went into clinic for my blood test to check it was safe to travel but realised after speaking to my consultant, that it was my mind rather than my body that was the issue.  Since then, I have been lucky enough to enjoy travelling to so many fabulous places that were all amazing including Cambodia, Bali, Malaysia, Canada, Morocco, and lots of European destinations.
